Guimarães received the ball at the edge of the penalty box and executed a stunning shot beyond Sunderland’s goalkeeper, Robin Roefs, to give Arsenal the lead.
Despite trailing, Sunderland remained relentless in pursuit of an equalizer, putting Arsenal’s defense under significant pressure. Robin Roefs showcased his goalkeeping prowess by denying Saka, while Dan Ballard’s crucial goal-line clearance kept Sunderland in contention. Nevertheless, Arsenal secured their victory in stoppage time when Saka successfully converted a penalty after Sunderland’s Reinildo received a second yellow card and was sent off.
This victory marks Arsenal’s sixth consecutive win across all competitions, including their Community Shield triumph, solidifying Mikel Arteta’s squad as strong contenders in their title defense. Sunderland, albeit defeated, delivered a commendable performance, demonstrating their capability to challenge top-tier teams in the league.
