Saudi Arabia’s national airline, Saudia, has announced plans to launch direct flights between Riyadh and Tokyo by November 2026. This new route will include three weekly flights departing from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The initiative is a result of collaboration with the Air Connectivity Program and the Saudi Tourism Authority, aiming to strengthen travel and tourism connections between the two nations.
The introduction of this route is anticipated to boost tourism, trade, and business exchanges between Saudi Arabia and Japan. By providing an additional international corridor, it will enhance access to Saudi Arabia, aligning with the ambitious goals set out in Saudi Vision 2030. This vision, along with the National Aviation Strategy and National Tourism Strategy, is focused on positioning Saudi Arabia as a central global hub for tourism and logistics.
In efforts to attract Japanese tourists, the Saudi Tourism Authority is actively working with partners in Japan to create appealing travel packages that highlight the Kingdom’s attractions. This strategic marketing move complements the launch of the new flight path, potentially increasing the number of visitors from Japan.
Moreover, the forthcoming Riyadh-Tokyo flight connection is expected to simplify travel ahead of the AFC Asian Cup 2027, which Saudi Arabia will host. This development reflects the Kingdom’s dedication to facilitating international travel for major sporting events while enhancing its global connectivity.
Currently, Saudia serves over 100 destinations worldwide and is in the process of expanding its fleet with plans to add 112 new aircraft. This expansion is part of the airline’s broader mission to extend its global reach and improve its service offerings.
