Recent Ebola outbreaks in parts of Africa, coupled with increasing worries about hantavirus infections worldwide, have prompted the introduction of additional precautionary measures. The nation has tightened travel monitoring and health checks specifically for visitors arriving from Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, ensuring a robust screening process is in place.
Pilgrims have already started arriving in Makkah, engaging in visits to significant religious sites such as the Grand Mosque, Jabal Al Nour, and the hills of Safa and Marwa, ahead of the official commencement of Hajj. The Saudi authorities have also taken steps to bolster security, strengthening arrangements at airports and along key pilgrimage routes. These measures are particularly pertinent given the rising regional tensions involving Iran and Gulf countries, and Saudi Arabia’s recent concerns over drone attacks.
To ensure the well-being of worshippers amid the intense summer heat, officials have expanded shaded walkways and established at least 34 medical units near major holy sites. These units are strategically deployed to offer healthcare support during the pilgrimage, highlighting the comprehensive nature of the preparations aimed at protecting the pilgrims.
