Saudi Arabia is bracing for an unusually hot summer in 2026, as per the latest seasonal climate forecasts from the National Center for Meteorology. The report indicates that all regions in the Kingdom are likely to experience above-average temperatures, while rainfall is projected to be normal or below normal across various areas.
The forecast for June suggests that rainfall levels will generally align with seasonal averages across the nation. However, July is anticipated to bring drier conditions, with below-average rainfall expected in regions such as Jazan, Baha, Asir, Makkah, Najran, and the Eastern Province. Other areas are likely to see rainfall within normal ranges.
Temperature-wise, June may witness rises of up to 1.5°C above normal in regions including Jazan, Baha, parts of Makkah and Asir, and cities such as Madinah, Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, and Tabuk. The temperature increase is expected to persist into July and August, reaching as much as 1.6°C above average in Jazan, Baha, and parts of Asir and Makkah, potentially making these some of the hottest areas in the country during the summer months.
Meteorological authorities have advised the public and relevant sectors to stay informed through official weather updates and forecasts. This vigilance will be crucial in ensuring preparedness and effective planning to mitigate the impact of the anticipated heatwave conditions.
