In response to a series of recent attacks by Houthi forces on civilian and economic targets in southern Saudi Arabia, Qatar has expressed its firm condemnation and demonstrated solidarity with the Kingdom. The Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, communicated this stance in a call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, affirming Qatar’s support for Saudi Arabia’s measures to protect its security and sovereignty.
The discussions between the two officials also encompassed broader regional developments and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and enhancing stability in the region. The Houthi attacks, which struck areas such as Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, resulted in injuries to 73 civilians, including women and children, and caused temporary disruptions at some energy facilities.
Qatar characterized these attacks as a dangerous escalation and a breach of Saudi sovereignty and international law. The Qatari government has called on the international community to respond more robustly to these incidents and to support the implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions related to the situation in Yemen and security in the Red Sea.
The conflict between Houthi forces and Saudi-backed forces has seen an increase in hostilities in recent weeks, raising fears of a larger conflict. The Houthis, who control Sanaa and significant portions of northern Yemen, have intensified their attacks on Saudi Arabia and maritime activity in the Red Sea. Meanwhile, forces aligned with the Yemeni government have launched offensives aimed at reclaiming Houthi-held territories.
